HALF DAY WORKSHOP : Effective Energy Audit for Commercial & Industrial Buildings

Place: Seminar Room, IEMNS | City: Seremban, Malaysia
An energy audit is an inspection, survey and analysis of energy flows for energy conservation in a building, process or system to reduce the amount of energy input into the system without negatively affecting the output(s). In commercial and industrial real estate, an energy audit is the first step in identifying opportunities to reduce energy expense and carbon footprints.
When the object of study is an occupied building then reducing energy consumption while maintaining or improving human comfort, health and safety are of primary concern. Beyond simply identifying the sources of energy use, an energy audit seeks to prioritize the energy uses according to the greatest to least cost effective opportunities for energy savings.
This training covers the basic knowledge and skills required to perform inspection, survey and analysis of energy flows for energy conservation in a building, process or system to reduce the amount of energy input into the system without negatively affecting the output.

Ir. S. Gopinath, MIEE
Registered Electrical Energy Manager (REEM)
33kV ST Electrical Competent Engineer
MSc (Hons.) in Electrical Engineering
Level I (ISO Cat II) Vibration Analyst
Level I Infrared Thermography
Level II Machine Lubrication Analyst
He is currently working as a Senior Lecturer (Electrical) at Nilai University, Malaysia. Besides teaching electrical-related modules, he involved in energy audit, energy efficiency program based on ISO 50001 – Energy Management System standards and technical consultation for M&E maintenance activities for the institution. Previously, he has worked with 2*700MW JEV coal-fired power plant, Port Dickson for nine (9) years with last position hold as an Electrical Maintenance Section Head. He has involved in the commissioning of coal-fired power plant mainly 500kV Generator Transformer, Generator, MV Motors and switchgear panels.
He has managed the maintenance team to perform routine maintenance activities (together with supporting tools such as motor lube oil analysis, thermography analysis, transformer oil analysis) & electrical troubleshooting and plant outages for critical and non-critical equipment. Some of major works involved are 500kV Generator Transformer OLTC servicing & electrical test, and 934MVA Generator overhaul work coordination which mainly on assembly & disassembly of rotor, seal oil & stator cooling water system commissioning and stator winding & rotor inspection. Besides that, He has published few IEEE conference papers mainly on generator, motor and bus duct system.
