BRIEFING TO BECOME PI/PAE INTERVIEWER – Guidelines and Assessment of PI/PAE Interview Process

Professional Interview is a peer review process comprising an examination on the professional competency of the candidate by Corporate Members of IEM with respect to:
- Grasp and application of engineering fundamentals,
- Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing,
- Demonstration of ethical judgement in the conduct of all works,
- Ability to accept professional responsibility, and
- Awareness of engineering sustainability, health and safety issues.
The assessment will be based on the following areas:
- Training and Experience Report;
- Technical Report;
- Oral Examination;
- Essay Writings on Technical and Code of Ethics.
The emphasis of the workshop is to guide and assist those qualified INTERVIEWER to be a potential successful interviewer for the Professional interview.
Open to all Corporate Members of IEMNS that have a minimum of three (3) years experience as Corporate Member.

Biodata of Speakers:
Ir. Dr. Abu Bakar Mahat
Ir. Dr. Abu Bakar Mahat hold a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from UTM, Malaysia in 1977; Honours Degree in Mechanical Engineering from University of Sunderland, United Kingdom in 1981; Master and Doctorate Degrees in the field of Manufacturing Technology from University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST), United Kingdom in 1983 and 1987. He has vast experience in corporate management as well as business development and project implementation.
Currently, he is the Vice Chairman II of IEM Negeri Sembilan Branch, sub-committees of IEM Central for Membership Applications Board (MAB), Membership Drive and Promotions (MDP), and registration committee of APEC Engineers and International Professional Engineers. To date, he has delivered numerous talks on the above topic and conducted a number of professional interviews as principal and second interviewers.
Also, he is a Consultant/ Professor(Industry) at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Malaya. His last employment was as Director of Commercial and Business Division, Universiti Kuala Lumpur.
Last but not least, he is a highly respectable and reputable professional in the field of Mechanical as Corporate Member of IEM (MEIM), registered Professional Engineer with BEM (PEng), Corporate Member of Institution of Mechanical Engineer, UK (MIMechE) and a Chartered Engineer, UK (CEng).
