INTRODUCTION

TUANKU JA'AFAR POWER STATION, PORT DICKSON

Tuanku Ja’afar Power Station was initially built as a conventional power plant and commences its operation in 1969 with 4×60 MW units. By 1978, its generating capacity was increased from 240 MW to 625 MW. TJPS delivered its generated power to the National Grid System via 132 kV and 275 kV transmission lines. After operating for more than 30 years and exceeding its economic life, TJPS conventional power plant was finally decommissioned in May 2004. Under TJPS Rehabilitation Project, TNB decided to replace the old plant with 2 blocks of 750 MW Combined Cycle Power Plant (CCPP). Both CCPP are of high efficiency and environmentally friendly gas-fired CCPP, utilizing state-of-art technology and employing industry best practices in power generation.

The project consists of 2 phases:-

•           PD1 – The MHI 750 MW CCPP Project

•           PD2 – The GE/TOSHIBA 750 MW CCPP Project

TJPS plays a vital role in promoting clean power generation in Malaysia by using highly efficient and clean-burning equipment. TJPS placed itself as one of the best power plants among MHI’s M701F Gas Turbines fleet worldwide.
