INTRODUCTION
KIBING GROUP
Kibing Group China announced their plan to start a new float line in Malaysia on January 2015, in a ceremony in Dongshan China which was attended by the Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar. The first line was light up (represents starting of Operation) on 20th March 2017. The second line started operation in June 2017.
Kibing Malaysia negotiated with HQ to make some necessary adjustment and received the support to go ahead with the changes even though it will delay the construction. In fact one of the critical changes that was made is in the direction of the float line. They had to swop the furnace location with the cold end so as to be more efficient in the long run. The overall area of the company is close to 149 acres, with the production line needed at least 900m from melting to finish goods. The total investment involved is around RM 900 million.
While waiting for the float line to be completed, Kibing Glass Malaysia did not waste time but did something extraordinary with their staff on hand. They did voluntary work for the community in Negeri Sembilan by helping in orphanages and old folks homes. One of the key factor why Kibing Group invested here in Negeri Sembilan is for the fact that this used to be where a Korean company operated a smaller glass manufacturing for the screen you see on television sets.
Kibing recognizes that people are their greatest assets and wants to retain these talents who have already been trained well by their previous company. Of the 440 workers currently being employed, 40% of them had working experiences from the glass industry. Kibing wants to assure their employees that they are valuable to the company. By investing in float lines in Malaysia, Kibing plans to stay rooted and by doing community work, it allows the employees to feel a sense of identity with the company in their home ground.
With the sheet glass being rolled out 24 hours a day non stop, everyone is kept busy. For Marketing for Kibing Malaysia. As early as 2016, the company have received inquiries from customers around the region who wants to buy the glass in their country. Kibing adopts a more pragmatic way of selling its glass. Rather than disrupting the market, they work with existing players to grow the market. They learn how individual market works before adopting a specific selling strategy for that particular market.
Kibing Malaysia produces clear float glass from 3mm to 19mm with its 700MT melting capacity furnace each for 2 lines. Their furnace technology is based on international standard and they uses the state-of-the-art scanning from Isra Vision to detect the smallest blemishes on the glass. 90% of the operations have been automated so that so as to reduce the reliance on manual labour.
Kibing Malaysia is a direct subsidiary wholly own by Kibing Group China. However one interesting phenomenon to note is that there are less than 5 % employees from China who hold mainly the technical support roles. The key members of the company are primarily local Malaysians unlike many China companies who staffed their overseas companies with their own countrymen, Kibing uses local people to manage their business for them. This allows the company to focus on their global strategic planning and minimizes the issues of cultural differences in the work environment. The company hopes that by adopting this approach, they can make Kibing Malaysia a business role model where they can duplicate similar efforts anywhere the Group plans to invest in.
So just as Kibing Group China started its first float line outside of China, Kibing Malaysia too take its first step to supply its glass to the market. To commemorate this special occasion, Kibing Malaysia took the first few sheets of glass it produces and cut them into smaller pieces to give to some of their business associates. The glass is as it witnesses a glass giant from China reinventing himself to face a brand new world with a renewed attitude and a brand new way of doing things.
Expectation is high for Kibing Glass Malaysia to perform well in this new landscape but with all the right things in place, morale is high for this new glass company to excel and be the golden child of the group. Theother 2nd float line coming out of Kibing Malaysia supports the first with its tinted float glass.
Kibing Malaysia also puts a great importance in energy saving. Its waste heat regenerator system helps reduce electricity consumption up to 40% (about 4MW). Heat from the furnace are channeled through turbines and converted into electricity, and used again through out the operation process. This technology was transferred from its HQ plant in China. The environment protection was put in place with the high chimney, to control Nitrogen oxide (NoX) and Sulfur oxide (SoX) below the allowable reading. Kibing Glass Malaysia will be a force to be reckoned with in the region in the near future.
