SEISMIC 2025

SYNOPSIS

“INTRODUCTION AND PRACTICAL SEISMIC ANALYSIS IN MALAYSIA (SERIES 1) WEBINAR"

Malaysia, though situated in a low-to-moderate seismicity region, has increasingly recognised the importance of seismic design following recent regional and local tremors.
This seminar, titled “Introduction and Practical Seismic Analysis in Malaysia,” aims to provide participants with a clear understanding of the fundamental concepts and practical implementation of seismic design in accordance with MS EN 1998-1:2017 (Eurocode 8 National Annex). The session will cover key provisions of the Malaysian code, highlight common pitfalls and areas requiring careful interpretation, and demonstrate how seismic parameters and load combinations can be effectively integrated into Trimble TSD for structural analysis and design.

BIODATA OF SPEAKER

ASSOC. PROF DANIEL LOOI

Associate Professor Dr Daniel Looi Ting Wee
PhD in Structural/Seismic Engineering (HKU), B.Eng (Hons) Civil (UM), MIEAust CPEng (Structural)

Dr. Daniel Looi is an Associate Professor and a structural engineer with experience working in Malaysia and Hong Kong.
He has a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Malaya and a PhD in Structural Engineering from the University of Hong Kong.
Daniel is a Chartered Professional Engineer (structural) of Engineers Australia. He volunteered to develop the Malaysian national code for EC8-1 (Seismic actions for buildings), EC1-1-6 (Actions during execution), and he chaired the Working Group for the Malaysian EC2-4 (Design of fastenings for use in concrete). He served as an Associate Editor (Civil) for HKIE Transactions, Editorial Board Member (Civil) for Scientific Reports (Springer Nature), Earthquake Engineering and Resilience (Wiley), and Academic Editor for Shock and Vibration (Wiley).
